On Saturday, December 13th, our community is invited to gather for a unique and timely educational experience at the High Springs Library Conference Room:
“Nature as Medicine: The Art of Forest Bathing (What Is Shinrin-Yoku)”
with Michael “Noah” DeLaney, PhD Student in Research Psychology at Keiser University.
Two identical sessions will be offered at 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM, making it easy for attendees to choose the time that works best for them. The seminar is open to everyone, with healthcare professionals especially encouraged to attend.
Forest bathing, known in Japan as Shinrin-yoku, translates to “taking in the forest atmosphere.” It is not exercise, hiking, or fitness training—it is a slow, intentional form of nature immersion that engages the senses and gently settles the nervous system.
Over the past several decades, forest bathing has been studied extensively in Japan, South Korea, and increasingly across the United States and Europe. Research suggests that regular immersion in natural environments may support:
Rather than treating nature as scenery, forest bathing approaches the forest as an active therapeutic environment—one that works with the body’s biology, not against it.
This seminar will explore the growing body of research explaining why forests have such a powerful effect on human health. Topics include:
Drawing from psychology, neuroscience, and ecological research, this talk bridges ancient wisdom with modern science.
Michael “Noah” DeLaney is a PhD student in Research Psychology at Keiser University and has spent years studying the psychological and physiological effects of nature-based interventions. His work integrates:
This seminar reflects both academic research and hands-on experience guiding people into deeper relationship with the natural world.
For physicians, nurses, therapists, counselors, social workers, and wellness practitioners, this seminar offers:
As healthcare increasingly shifts toward preventive and integrative models, forest bathing stands at the intersection of medicine, psychology, and ecology.
This event is not just for professionals. It is ideal for:
No prior experience with meditation, yoga, or forest therapy is required.
We live in a time of unprecedented mental strain, digital overload, and chronic stress. This seminar invites you to pause, reconnect, and rediscover one of humanity’s oldest healing environments—the forest.
Whether you attend out of personal curiosity, professional development, or a desire for deeper balance, you are warmly invited to join us for this exploration of nature as medicine.
Come learn how the forest heals.

🌿 A Day of Grace, Community, and Connection: Reflections on Our November 8th Open House
Ichetucknee Yoga Club & Outdoor Meditation Center – Branford, Florida
On Saturday, November 8th, the Ichetucknee Yoga Club hosted its first-ever Open House—a day devoted to peace, mindfulness, community, and reconnection with nature. Over 30 guests gathered to share a day of yoga, meditation, forest bathing, sacred ceremony, and music in an atmosphere overflowing with gratitude and harmony.
🌞 Opening the Day: Sound, Spirit, and Intention
The day began with a welcoming circle of introduction, where guests met one another and shared their intentions for the experience ahead. This opening “meet-and-greet” created an immediate sense of connection and community.
To begin the day’s journey, Kaliya Dasa lifted a conch shell and blew three resonant notes to “break the ether”—a sacred act symbolizing the clearing of energy and the invitation of higher consciousness into the space. The sound echoed beautifully across the lake. Following this moment, Kaliya led a brief meditative chant accompanied by the harmonium, setting a tranquil and reverent tone for the day.
🧘♂️ Yoga, Music, and Healing Vibration
The morning continued with an uplifting yoga class led by Johnathan Hall (Master of Science in Maharishi Ayurveda). His calm presence and expert guidance helped participants center themselves and align body and breath with the rhythms of nature.
As the afternoon unfolded, the energy transformed through live music and sound meditations by Aura Cleveland and Harold Henao. Their harmonies blended with the soundscape of the land—creating a soothing atmosphere that encouraged mindfulness and release.
Later, Aura and Harold led an expressive session of nature-based movement, live music, sound meditations, and a medicine song circle, inviting participants to move, sing, and share in the collective energy of creative healing.
🌲 Forest Bathing and Nature Connection
Throughout the day, guests joined one of three Forest Bathing sessions led by Michael DeLaney and Dorothy Regan. Each session, which was adapted for different comfort levels, invited participants to slow down, tune in, and experience the forest as a living, breathing companion. Surrounded by the fragrance of cedar and pine, participants breathed in prāṇa-rich air infused with phytoncides, the natural compounds trees release that promote relaxation and well-being.
These walks around the lake and forest trails offered moments of stillness, reflection, and quiet joy, reminding everyone that connection with nature is a return to our most natural state.
🔥 The Sacred Fire Yagna Ceremony
The afternoon’s highlight was the Vedic Fire Yagna Ceremony, officiated by Kaliya Dasa and Jahnesvari Dasi. With rhythmic mantras and sacred offerings, participants joined in a centuries-old ritual symbolizing purification, prosperity, and renewal.
Adding youthful energy to the sacred fire was Patrick, our youngest guest, who attended with his mother Racheal. Patrick eagerly joined in the day’s activities—helping with the Yagna, participating in drumming during kirtan, and enjoyed a guided group walk around the lake with his mother. His presence brought smiles to every face, a reminder that the joy of spirit and connecting with nature transcends age.
Also present was Mahananda Dasa, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday on October 29th. His presence added depth and inspiration, embodying decades of wisdom and devotion shared freely with the community.
🥗 A Feast of Fellowship
Following the ceremony, guests gathered for a delicious vegetarian lunch catered by Olive Garden. The shared meal was filled with laughter, meaningful conversation, and the unmistakable sense of family that comes from shared intention and open hearts.
🌧️ A Rain of Blessings and a Rainbow of Promise
Though the weather forecast had promised 0% chance of rain, nature offered her own blessing. Just after the Yagna concluded, a gentle, healing rain began to fall—cool and light, lasting just two minutes. It was perfectly timed, refreshing both the air and the spirit.
After lunch, as kirtan began—led by Kaliya and Jahnesvari—a stunning rainbow appeared in the eastern sky, arching vividly over the beautiful lake and juniper trees. It felt like the natural world itself had joined in the celebration, affirming the day’s message of unity, love, and renewal.
🌈 Gratitude and Looking Ahead
The Open House was more than an event: it was a living expression of community, spirit, and the harmony between humans and nature. The gentle rain and shining rainbow seemed to symbolize what everyone felt within: connection, healing, and joy.
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this day possible:
Special appreciation to Patrick and Racheal for bringing the spirit of joyful curiosity, and to Mahananda Dasa for blessing the gathering with his wisdom and presence.
The November 8th Open House marked a true milestone for the Ichetucknee Yoga Club—a gathering that embodied the power of prāṇa, connection, and natural harmony.
